Custer State Park & Mt. Rushmore

There was some amazing riding in South Dakota and we hit the majority of it I think.  Our last day of riding was in Custer State Park and then over to Mt. Rushmore.  Custer State park is a reserve so there are no fences so it was really fun to see all the wildlife right on the roads.
Tons of Anteloupe
The road to Mt. Rushmore was awesome, it was so curvy and beautiful.  There are numerous tunnels through the rocks so that when you drive through they frame Mt. Rushmore and it's gorgeous! But they are one way tunnels so honking is required through them!
While we were in the gift shop at Rushmore it started raining, with no choice but to hit the road we headed for Keystone to eat lunch.  After lolly-gagging around after lunch and it was still raining we checked the doppler and decided to make a run for it.  We got about 15 minutes outta town when the hail started....and this wasn't little hail.  This was golf ball sized ice balls hail...they hurt, like gave you bruises and welts hurt.  The bikes had little damage thankfully, Ashleys gas cap was toast and I got  ding in my light.  We had no choice but to pull over and take shelter in the trees and watch the lighting strike!  It made for some great memories!

That is fun country ! Brian and I made that drive a few years back , we were in the Honda and I wished for once I was on a motorcycle. Sorry about the hail.

What an adventure! I'm glad you stopped. I always feel so bad for bikers in the rain and can't even imagine riding through hail! Yikes!

Ooh, did you chase the antelope on your bikes? That was one of the most fun things I did in Montana. They will run up to 65 mph when being chased its amazing!
